Inside and Out Skin Care Routine

My Inside and Out Skin Care Routine

I'm 36 years old and when I was in my early 20s I smoked cigarettes and cloves. I also spent a couple years addicted to heavy drugs. Not my proudest moments but it happened and its in the past. But since getting clean those many many years ago, I have been on a mission to reverse some of the damage I caused to my body. It started with ditching my toxic relationship, then rewiring my brain slowly, then cleaning up my nutrition and then became a full obsession with fitness and doing as many things as I can holistically. I'm determined to age in reverse.

I love supplements and use them whenever I feel necessary. Especially at my age when things are slowing like metabolism, energy, bone and muscle mass, stomach acid, etc.. Any boost I can give my body, I will. So here are a few of the things I have been doing to keep my skin looking beautiful. And if I may say so myself, at my age I think I look better than a lot of people who have never even put the types of toxins in their bodies like I have!

Collagen - the type of collagen I use is a powdered hydrolized collagen peptides which means it is more biologically available and can be blended into anything since it is flavorless. It's a powder so I mix it easily in my coffee. I used to take the great big giant horse pills, 3 at a time! That was painful. So this is so much simpler and easier and I don't have to do it on an empty stomach. I want to help my body as much as possible to stay strong and have healthy connective tissue so that I don't get arthritis and have healthy looking skin is nice.

Acure face wash - My ABSOLUTE FAVORITES!! This brand makes clean, natural products that don't contain crazy unpronounceable ingredients. I've been using these 2 types of face soap for probably 3 years. I switched once and was highly disappointed. Just stick with what works right? One is a scrub and the other a super lathering gel which I use together to remove dead skin and deep clean pores. This is important to me because I workout every day and sweat a lot. If I don't wash my face I will break out. I know the surface of your skin has a lot of beneficial bacteria but its necessary for the amount that I sweat.

Water - lots and lots of water and then more. They say the minimum you should drink is half your body weight in ounces. So if I weigh 150lbs, I should drink at least 75 ounces. But I drink probably more than that on a good day. Water makes up 70% of your body and brain. It is so vital to the functioning of all your organs and I notice on the days that I have kept up on my intake that my skin looks flawless. Not even kidding.

Vitamin C serum - I've tried many different brands and haven't hated any of them. Vitamin C serum is great for reducing the appearance of dark spots, age spots, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles; plus vitamin C helps produce collagen! I always apply a moisturizer. Right now I am in the process of dwindling down my beauty products because I just went crazy a few years ago and was doing way too much online shopping. Anyways, I am currently using an Acure daily moisturizer but I have yet to determine my favorite.

Cleaning up my nutrition - The worst things I probably consume are sugar and beer. And I don't even hate myself for it. While I don't like to label foods as good or bad, I know that certain things cause inflammation and so I know to moderate them. I'd love to hate sugar but I don't. I try to eat mostly plant based, with salmon, tempeh and eggs making up the majority of my protein. I eat healthy fats like avocado, nuts and seeds. And drink my nutrient rich shake every day that provides tons of antioxidants, greens, pro- and pre biotics, adaptogens and other vitamins and minerals. My hair and nails have been growing so much faster too since routinely drinking it. Our bodies are exposed to pollutants every day from our foods, air and water so eating and drinking foods rich in antioxidants can help reverse some of that damage.

Sunblock - whether its better to wear it or not, I still don't know but I buy the brands that are safest according to EWG. I allow at least 15 minutes of unprotected sun exposure and then I apply it. The sun helps your skin produce vitamin D which is beneficial to your body in lots of ways.

Baseball cap - yep, anytime I am in the sun and remember my hat! The less sun exposure on my face the better.
