I'm obsessed with extending my life! BUT! Having a long life is different than having LIVED.
So while having extra years matters, what truly matters is feeling good while experiencing them.
How do I achieve that? Well, one practice I have been trying is to reduce or eliminate sugar. There is so much sugar in processed foods because companies know we love sugar and when we eat it it not only produces dopamine which make us feel really good, but it signals our brain that we want more, so we buy more. Food companies profits go up while your weight does too.
It is recommended that as a female adult you try to not consume any more than 100 calories of sugar, that's 25 grams or 6 tsps a day. That includes a lot of different types of sugars that are used today in our foods. Watch the video I made below for a list of all the types of sugars.
For adult males the amount is no more than 150 calories, 37 grams or 9 tsps.
I wanted to share an example of the sugar content in yogurt. Most people eat yogurt for its nutritive value but not all are going to help you reach your weight loss goals if you aren't paying attention to their sugar content.

If you'll notice, most have almost the daily amount they want you to stay under. The point to not over consuming sugar is of course to prevent spiking your blood sugar levels. The more you spike your blood sugar throughout the day the more often your pancreas has to continue to produce insulin. Then after years of this happening, eventually your insulin either becomes less effective (insulin resistance) or produced less.
In type 1 diabetes which people are born with (you cannot develop it) it is that the pancreas just isn't producing enough insulin if at all.
Type 2 can develop at any age, less likely in children unless they are overweight and on a poor diet, but more and more often it is happening. Usually type 2 affects people in their 40s! That's still pretty young!

What insulin does: It is produced by the pancreas so that it can help glucose get transferred into your body's cells (muscles) for energy. This occurs when you eat carbohydrates and sugars of all kinds; but there is a difference.
Sugar (glucose) is your body's #1 source of energy. But when you eat TOO MUCH sugar then it stores it for later use but if you aren't working out or physically active, then it just becomes causes weight gain. This is for all types of sugar. It is called 'spiking your blood sugar' because it is free floating in your bloodstream when insulin isn't able to do it's job.
Being overweight can lead to pre and type 2 diabetes a lot faster but that doesn't mean you can't still be a healthy weight and develop it. Becoming pre or type 2 leads to a slew of other health problems and possibly death from strokes and heart disease.
I will be holding challenge groups from here on out to help people practice healthier eating habits involving eating less or no sugar on some days. If you would like to join one of my groups, please email me at beyoutifulhealth44@gmail.com or visit me on Instagram and DM me, @juliette_wanderlove_fit I would love to help you get back on track!
