Living Fully

A pic I took in Cali at sunset

Take chances -

This sort of goes hand-in-hand with a lot of other things mentioned here. Don't let yourself wonder 'what if's. Even if you fail, lose, or don't get the outcome you wanted at least you'll have tried and now you know. Either try again, try harder, try differently...but don't ever give up

Never give up -

Think you made a fool out of yourself by trying and failing? Don't. Only fools give up.

Don't be afraid to fail -

If you haven't failed today, then you haven't tried hard enough. Failing shows that you tried and gives you the opportunity to think about what you can do differently or change to succeed.

Try things that scare you -

Living in fear can hold you back from truly experiencing life to its greatest potential. I am so afraid of flying and public speaking, but when I was younger I was always the first to volunteer to give a speech. And I will never stop flying because I want to travel.

Stop talking and thinking about it and start doing it -

Let's say you have this big dream and you think there's just no way achieve because it's just going to require all these things to happen. Well, stop procrastinating and making excuses and start with the first step to make it come true.

Even if its just one small step its a step forward -

Any amount of step is greater than no step.

Don't forget about your dreams -

The dreams you had as a kid are probably going to be the ones that bring you the greatest joy. Don't get swept up in the everyday nonsense of life and trying to maintain the social norm.

Positive affirmations and self-talk-

Just as the saying goes "you are what you eat" so does "you are what you think". Why feed yourself spoonfuls of negativity? You can and you will. Time to whisper sweet nothings to yourself.

Eat right -

A body running on processed foods and foods low in nutrient wears you down and can start a domino of health issues. Feed your body what it needs to get the nutrients it needs to make the chemical and hormonal processes it needs to happen to maintain homeostasis (balance).

Take care of your body -

You only get one. This isn't a practice round. Don't smoke. Don't drink excessively. Everything in moderation. Except the smoking.

Be kind, generous, sympathetic, mindful of/towards others -

Unfortunately you were not the only one born unto this Earth. Imagine we are all in a great big caravan and we are on a journey together. That journey would suck if everyone had to be right, or everyone complained about nothing, or was selfish and ate all the food, drank all the water, took up all the space. And that asshole who is being an asshole, don't worry he's probably miserable.

Challenge yourself -

Learn everyday, grow in every way.

Try to not stress so much -

Did you know that stress has a purpose? A moment of stress is normal and can help the mind determine what course of action to take, but a long bout of stress is detrimental to your health. Ever heard of 'fight or flight'? This is what stress (or more specifically, cortisol) is for. But to worry over something such as a test, meeting, or surgery 2 weeks away is not going to help in any way. Not only does stress disrupt hormonal balance but it makes you fat! Yes my good friend, cortisol is produced excessively when stressed out and it causes weight gain! And if that's not enough, cortisol also disrupts brain function and can be a precursor to early onset dementia. More on stress in next blog!

Laugh more, appreciate more, smile more.

Go get 'em tiger!
